Felix Auger-Aliassime produced one of his strongest performances of the season as he defeated two-time ATP Finals champion Alexander Zverev. With a 6-4, 7-6 (4) victory, the eighth-seeded Canadian secured the final available spot in the semifinals. The match carried huge pressure because both players knew the winner would move forward and the loser would end their tournament. Auger-Aliassime handled the moment with calm focus, especially during the tight second set, and celebrated a well-earned win in front of an excited Turin crowd.
Auger-Aliassime’s reward for reaching the semifinals is a meeting with the world’s No. 1 player, Carlos Alcaraz. The young Spanish star entered the semifinals after winning all three of his group-stage matches, sealing his place as the year-end No. 1. His strong form means Auger-Aliassime faces a tough challenge, but the Canadian says he is ready. He stated that this event feels like a “grand finale,” and he is eager to take his chance if an opportunity appears.
Both Auger-Aliassime and Jannik Sinner progressed from the Bjorn Borg group. Sinner, the defending champion, had earlier completed a perfect group stage by beating Ben Shelton 6-3, 7-6 (3). With three straight wins and no sets lost, Sinner looked dominant heading into the semifinals. Auger-Aliassime’s win over Zverev secured the second qualifying spot, and his mental strength proved crucial throughout the match.
Alexander Zverev began the match knowing that victory was the only path into the semifinals, but pressure affected him at key moments. He missed all four of his break-point chances and made 18 unforced errors in the second set alone. Frustration became visible as he often looked toward his team after mistakes. He sent a routine return into the net to give Auger-Aliassime two match points, and soon after hit a forehand long, ending his hopes of advancing. For Zverev, it was a tough result after fighting through a challenging season.
After the match, Auger-Aliassime spoke warmly about the achievement. He said he had always believed he could win matches like this, but turning belief into action still requires courage and effort. He described the match as emotional for both players and expressed deep happiness about reaching his first ATP Finals semifinal. With this win, he now joins the top eight players of the season in the last stage of the event.
Jannik Sinner showed once again why he is one of the most dangerous players on the ATP Tour. After watching Alcaraz receive the year-end No. 1 trophy, Sinner stepped on court and delivered another clean victory. He defeated Ben Shelton in straight sets and advanced to the semifinals undefeated. The Italian star has not lost a service game or a set throughout the week. His consistency, powerful groundstrokes, and strong home support make him a major threat in the final stages.
Sinner’s next opponent will be Alex de Minaur, the seventh seed, who reached the semifinals with solid performances in the group stage. Their semifinal match promises speed, long rallies, and high energy. The final of the tournament is scheduled for Sunday, and Sinner hopes to reach it again as he did last year when he lifted the trophy without losing a single set.
With the group stage finished, the ATP Finals move into their deciding phase. Auger-Aliassime will take on Alcaraz in a high-pressure match of youth and power. On the other side, Sinner aims to continue his perfect run against de Minaur. With two strong semifinals ahead, tennis fans can expect intense rallies, emotional moments, and world-class competition as the season closes with the tour’s most elite event.
