Stephen Curry delivered his best game of the season by scoring 49 points. He also made the winning free throws in the final moments to help the Golden State Warriors beat the San Antonio Spurs 109-108. The game was part of the NBA Cup, and it was played in San Antonio. The victory showed Curry’s leadership and strong shooting, especially when the pressure was high.
This win gave the Warriors a sweep of their two-game mini-series in San Antonio. They won both games within three nights. Golden State has now won three of their past four games overall. The team also improved to 1-1 in West Group C of the NBA in-season tournament. The Spurs, after this loss, also stand at 1-1 in the same group.
San Antonio looked strong early in the fourth quarter. The Spurs built a 10-point lead, putting the Warriors under pressure. But Golden State did not panic. Curry, Gary Payton II, and Brandin Podziemski began to hit key shots. Slowly, the Warriors came back, and they took a 101-100 lead with about three and a half minutes left.
San Antonio star Victor Wembanyama gave his team hope when he made a difficult tip-in. He jumped over a defender and scored, giving the Spurs a 108-105 lead with just over one minute left. The crowd was excited, and the Spurs felt they could win the game. But the Warriors refused to give up.
Golden State’s Jimmy Butler III cut the lead with a layup. Then the Spurs tried to score again, but Wembanyama blocked a shot, and De’Aaron Fox missed a chance. With only 6.4 seconds left, Curry drove toward the basket and was fouled. This was the moment that decided the game. Curry calmly made both free throws to push the Warriors ahead 109-108.
After a timeout, the Spurs gave the ball to Fox for the final shot. He took a tough jumper as the buzzer sounded. The ball bounced twice on the rim but did not fall in. The Warriors held on to win by just one point. It was a dramatic finish that kept the fans on the edge of their seats.
Curry was the star, but he also received help. Jimmy Butler III scored 21 points. Will Richard and Brandin Podziemski added 10 points each. Their timely shots helped Golden State stay close until Curry finished the job.
Victor Wembanyama had a strong game for San Antonio. He finished with 26 points and 12 rebounds. De’Aaron Fox also played well, scoring 24 points and passing for 10 assists. Julian Champagnie scored 14 points, while Stephon Castle and Devin Vassell added 13 and 11 points. Even with these efforts, the Spurs could not stop Curry’s final push.
The first half of the game was competitive. After the first quarter, the Spurs held a small 20-18 lead. In the second quarter, Golden State used strong three-point shooting to move ahead. Curry, Podziemski, and Richard all hit deep shots. The Warriors built a 40-33 lead. But San Antonio closed the half strong with a 10-4 run. At halftime, Golden State led only 47-45.
In the third quarter, both teams continued to fight. Curry scored a highlight-reel bank shot while being fouled, giving the Warriors momentum. Golden State used a 14-6 run to move ahead 68-66 with a little over three minutes left in the quarter. The game stayed close, with neither team pulling away.
In the end, Curry’s scoring, confidence, and experience made the difference. His 49 points and clutch free throws helped the Warriors win a very close and exciting NBA Cup game. Golden State left San Antonio with momentum, hope, and a strong message that they can still compete at a high level this season.
