Diaz said, “The industry is so different. I have to say that MeToo changed everything.” She explained that the atmosphere on set is now much more positive and respectful. According to Diaz, there used to be a certain tension whenever one particular person, often a powerful male figure, approached others on set. But that dynamic, she said, has changed for the better.
The Mask actress shared that earlier in her career, she often faced layers of inappropriate behavior on movie sets. At the time, Diaz felt there was little choice but to deal with it and continue working. However, things were handled differently when she filmed Back in Action.
Diaz revealed that before the shooting began, human resources reached out to discuss workplace standards and appropriate conduct during filming. Cast and crew members were also given access to an anonymous hotline to report any concerns or issues they might face on set.
The actress was genuinely impressed by the steps taken to create a safer and more inclusive environment. “I’ve never felt safer on a film set,” Diaz admitted. She appreciated how these changes, particularly for women in the industry, have made a real difference.
Diaz made her Hollywood debut in the 1994 hit movie The Mask alongside Jim Carrey. She quickly became a household name, starring in popular films like There’s Something About Mary, My Best Friend’s Wedding, and Charlie’s Angels.
After stepping away from acting to focus on her personal life, Diaz returned to the screen thanks to her Back in Action co-star Jamie Foxx. Speaking on The Graham Norton Show, Diaz shared how Foxx convinced her to take the role. “I am back, all thanks to Jamie,” she said, explaining that it felt like the right time to return.
In the film, Diaz and Foxx play former CIA agents, Emily and Matt, whose identities are exposed, pulling them back into the dangerous world they left behind.
Back in Action is currently available for streaming on Netflix, marking Diaz’s much-anticipated return to Hollywood.
