A United States aircraft has gone down inside Iran, marking a significant escalation in the ongoing regional conflict. According to U.S. and Israeli officials, one crew member has been successfully rescued, while search operations for others continue.
The rescue mission was carried out by U.S. forces with assistance from Israel, as part of an active search-and-rescue operation. Officials familiar with the situation confirmed the development but spoke on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of ongoing military activities.
The White House stated that President Donald Trump has been briefed on the situation. However, no additional details about the aircraft or crew have been officially disclosed so far.
This incident marks the first known case of a U.S. aircraft being lost within Iranian territory since the conflict began nearly five weeks ago. It remains unclear whether the aircraft was shot down or crashed due to technical reasons.
Rising Regional Tensions
The development comes amid heightened military activity across the Middle East. On Friday, Iran launched strikes targeting multiple locations across the region, continuing its aggressive posture despite claims by the U.S. and Israel that its military strength has been significantly weakened.
Iran’s actions, particularly around the strategically critical Strait of Hormuz, have caused major disruptions in global energy markets. The region handles nearly one-fifth of the world’s oil and gas supply, and tensions have led to rising oil prices and economic uncertainty.
Search Intensifies in Mountain Regions
Iranian state-affiliated media reported that at least one pilot ejected from the aircraft. Social media footage showed U.S. drones, helicopters, and aircraft actively searching in mountainous areas.
Authorities in Iran have called on residents in provinces such as Kohkilouyeh, Boyer-Ahmad, and Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari to report any sightings of the pilot. A television anchor even urged locals to hand over any “enemy pilot” to authorities, offering rewards for information.
In a controversial move, an on-screen message reportedly encouraged civilians to take action if they encountered foreign personnel, further escalating tensions.
Uncertainty Remains
The total number of crew members on board the aircraft is still unknown. The Pentagon and U.S. Central Command have not yet issued official statements regarding the incident.
While Iran has previously claimed to have downed enemy aircraft during the conflict, many such claims have later been disputed. However, this is the first instance where Iranian media has publicly called on civilians to assist in locating a downed pilot.
