President Volodymyr Zelenskiy expressed concerns about the impact of a potential Donald Trump victory in the upcoming U.S. election. In an interview published on Thursday, Zelenskiy acknowledged that working with Trump would be challenging for Ukraine, but emphasized that Ukrainians are prepared to navigate the situation.

Trump's recent choice of Senator J.D. Vance as his running mate has raised questions about the future of U.S. support for Ukraine. Vance, known for his controversial stance, has previously stated, "I don't really care what happens to Ukraine one way or the other," signaling a potential shift in Washington's policy. Zelenskiy addressed this concern, remarking, "Maybe he really doesn't care, but we have to work with the United States."
Speaking to the BBC at the European Political Community meeting in London, Zelenskiy underscored that while a Trump administration might pose difficulties, Ukraine remains committed to its efforts. "It would be hard work, but we are hard workers," he stated.
The current U.S. administration under Joe Biden has been a significant source of military aid for Ukraine throughout the conflict with Russia. However, this support faced interruptions due to internal disputes within the U.S. Congress. Trump, in his campaign rhetoric, has promised to end the conflict swiftly through negotiations, claiming that there would have been no war if he had been in office when Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022.
In his comments to the BBC, Zelenskiy also expressed frustration over delays in receiving promised F-16 fighter jets, which are crucial for countering Russia's air superiority. Despite assurances of delivery this summer, the planes have yet to arrive. Zelenskiy stressed their importance for Ukraine's defense and "unblocking the skies."
Looking ahead, Zelenskiy expressed hope that Britain's new Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, will continue strong support for Ukraine and become a prominent advocate for international security and the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
