A neuroscientist from Florida, Dr. Robert Love, has warned that some everyday foods can slowly harm your brain, weaken memory, and affect sleep. He explained that our diet has a deep connection with brain health, and eating the wrong types of food for a long time can cause brain cells to shrink and increase the risk of diseases like Alzheimer’s.

Dr. Love, who studies Alzheimer’s prevention, shared his warning in a recent Instagram video. He said that many people do not realize that what they eat every day can make their brain weaker over time. “Your diet doesn’t just affect your weight—it affects how your brain works,” he said.

According to him, the brain and body are closely linked. When one part of the body becomes inflamed or unhealthy, the brain is also affected. This can lead to memory problems, poor focus, mood swings, and difficulty sleeping.

Dr. Love listed three common foods that can harm brain health if eaten too often.

The first group includes seed oils like canola, sunflower, peanut, and soybean oil. He said these oils are “highly processed” and often heated to very high temperatures, which makes them harmful. “These oils create inflammation in the body. Inflammation is one of the main risk factors for brain diseases like Alzheimer’s,” he explained.

He added that many people don’t realize how often they consume seed oils. These oils are found in almost all processed foods like chips, cookies, fried snacks, and even salad dressings. Over time, this can damage brain cells and make it harder for the brain to repair itself.

The second group is ultra-processed foods—things like packaged snacks, instant noodles, and sugary breakfast cereals. Dr. Love said these foods are full of preservatives, unhealthy fats, and sugar. “Ultra-processed foods combine everything that harms your brain—seed oils, sugar, and chemicals that cause inflammation,” he said.

He explained that people who eat processed food daily might notice that they feel more tired, less focused, and have trouble sleeping. These signs are early warnings that the brain is under stress.

The third harmful group is sugar-rich foods like pastries, soft drinks, and candies. Dr. Love said high sugar levels can damage blood vessels in the brain and lower the body’s ability to produce insulin properly. This can lead to memory loss and long-term brain problems.

“When blood sugar goes up and down too much, it affects how your brain uses energy,” he said. “Too much sugar can make it hard to think clearly and remember things.”

Dr. Love also pointed out that the modern diet has become too dependent on processed and sugary foods. “We live in a world where unhealthy food is everywhere, and it’s easy to forget how much it can hurt us from the inside,” he warned.

He suggested people choose natural foods like fresh vegetables, fruits, nuts, whole grains, and healthy fats such as olive oil or avocado. He said these foods help keep the brain strong and protect it from diseases. “The goal is not perfection but awareness—knowing what helps your brain and what hurts it,” he added.

Experts agree that eating a balanced diet with fewer processed foods can improve both physical and mental health. Good nutrition supports brain cells, improves blood flow, and helps the brain stay active even as we age.
