Shares of Billionbrains Garage Ventures, the parent company of India’s leading online brokerage Groww, made a striking market entry on Wednesday. The stock opened at Rs 112, soared to a peak of Rs 134.4, and settled at Rs 128.85 on the NSE — up nearly 29% from its IPO price of Rs 100. Trading volumes exceeded Rs 7,000 crore across NSE and BSE, reflecting heightened investor enthusiasm.
Valuation Exceeds Expectations
Groww’s strong debut pushed its market valuation to Rs 79,547 crore ($8.9 billion), significantly higher than the initial IPO valuation of Rs 61,736 crore ($7 billion). Analysts noted that this performance exceeded expectations, highlighting the firm’s dominant position in India’s retail investing ecosystem.
Why Investors Flocked to Groww
The IPO received overwhelming interest, being subscribed 18 times. It included a fresh issue of Rs 1,060 crore and an offer for sale (OFS) of Rs 5,572 crore by early backers like Tiger Global and Peak XV Partners. Proceeds from the fresh issue are aimed at strengthening Groww’s cloud infrastructure, expanding subsidiaries, and exploring potential acquisitions.
Groww’s market share is substantial — the company accounts for 26% of NSE’s 45.2 million active clients and nearly one in three SIPs flows through its platform. The surge in retail participation in equities and mutual funds further fueled investor appetite.
Performance Metrics and Industry Context
In FY25, Groww posted a net profit of Rs 1,824 crore on revenues of Rs 3,902 crore. The listing comes at a time when India’s retail investing market is expanding rapidly, with demat accounts crossing 210 million. Analysts have highlighted that Groww’s valuation already reflects much of the market optimism, making continued execution and growth critical.
What’s Next for Groww
With leadership established in mutual funds and direct equities, Groww is now focusing on scaling its wealth management platform ‘W’ for high-net-worth individuals, along with its margin trading facility (MTF). The company’s challenge will be executing this multi-product strategy while navigating regulatory and market uncertainties.
