On February 23, 2025, Lana Nusseibeh, the Assistant Minister for Political Affairs and the UAE Foreign Minister's Envoy to the European Union, led the UAE delegation at the Munich Security Conference.
This annual event gathers world leaders, government officials, and experts to discuss international peace and security. The conference took place during a challenging time in global relations.
Throughout the event, Nusseibeh held over 35 meetings with various leaders and experts. In these talks, she emphasized the urgent need for peace in the region, especially in Gaza. She called for the continuation of the ceasefire in Gaza and urged everyone to support efforts toward a two-state solution for Palestine and Israel. She also highlighted the importance of stabilizing Lebanon and Syria to ensure peace across the region.

Another important issue discussed was the humanitarian crisis in Sudan. Nusseibeh stressed how critical it is for countries to support a ceasefire initiative put forward by the UAE, Ethiopia, the African Union (AU), and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) during Ramadan. She encouraged nations to help end the suffering in Sudan and provide support for the people there.
As part of the UAE’s efforts, Nusseibeh reminded everyone about the UAE’s pledge of an additional $200 million in aid to Sudan. This was announced on February 14, 2025, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Nusseibeh, as the UAE’s Envoy to the European Union, also met with senior EU officials and members of the European Parliament. They talked about strengthening the relationship between the UAE and the EU, particularly focusing on free trade. This conversation was especially important at a time when both Europe and the MENA (Middle East and North Africa) region are working hard to grow their economies and stay competitive.
During the conference, Nusseibeh took part in a panel discussion organized by the Observer Research Foundation. She joined several influential people, including Alexander Stubb, President of Finland; S. Jaishankar, the Minister of External Affairs of India; Jon Huntsman Jr., former US Ambassador to China and Russia; and Professor Nathalie Tocci, Director of the Istituto Affari Internazionali in Rome.
In the discussion, Nusseibeh spoke about the importance of building strong and new partnerships. She described the UAE as a global economic center thanks to its smart diplomatic and economic efforts. She mentioned that the UAE had signed over 20 Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreements in recent years.
Nusseibeh also encouraged other countries to be ready to form new partnerships and strengthen existing ones. She said that when long-standing relationships fail to bring benefits, it is important to look for new opportunities and create strong connections. According to her, this approach is not about transactions but about making practical, smart decisions in today’s world.
The UAE’s delegation also included Ahmed Alattar, the UAE Ambassador to Germany; Mohamed Al Sahlawi, the UAE Ambassador to Belgium, Luxembourg, and the European Union; and Muath Alwari, Director of Policy Planning at the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
This event highlighted the UAE’s strong role in global diplomacy and its commitment to peace, stability, and partnerships.
