The United Arab Emirates rowing team brought pride to the nation after winning two medals at the Asian Rowing Beach Sprint Finals 2025, which were held in the Chinese coastal city of Zhoushan from September 11 to 14. The championship gathered talented rowers from across Asia, making it one of the most competitive events of the year.
The UAE athletes showed determination and skill as they battled strong opponents in the high-energy sprint races held along the beaches of Zhoushan. Their efforts were rewarded with both a silver medal and a bronze medal, proving that Emirati rowing is rising strongly on the Asian sports stage.
In the Girls’ Double Under-19 category, the young duo Shamsa Al Sheryani and Fatima Khalaf impressed everyone with their speed and teamwork. The pair rowed with perfect coordination and finished second, proudly taking home the silver medal. Their performance highlighted the growing talent among young Emirati women in water sports, showing that the next generation of athletes is ready to shine internationally.
Meanwhile, in the Elite Men’s Double event, Hamad Al Matroushi and Khamis Ghanem gave a tough fight against seasoned Asian rowers. Their powerful strokes and competitive spirit pushed them onto the podium with a bronze medal, a remarkable achievement considering the strength of the competition.

After the medals were secured, Sheikh Ahmed bin Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE Sailing and Rowing Federation, congratulated the athletes and the entire team delegation. He emphasized that these victories reflect the hard work, discipline, and growing reputation of Emirati rowing on the Asian sports map. He also praised the dedication of the athletes and coaches, who have worked tirelessly to prepare for this international challenge.
The Asian Rowing Beach Sprint Finals are known for their exciting format, where rowers must not only rely on strength and endurance but also adapt quickly to the waves, wind, and beach conditions. Competing in such an event requires great balance, strategy, and physical stamina. The UAE team’s ability to succeed in this environment shows their readiness for bigger international competitions in the future.
These victories also send a strong message to the sports community across the region—that the UAE is not only excelling in football and other mainstream sports but is also making its mark in rowing, sailing, and other water-based events. With continued support from the federation and leadership, Emirati athletes are expected to achieve even greater milestones in the coming years.
For the young athletes like Shamsa and Fatima, the medals represent more than just wins. They stand as symbols of hope and encouragement for Emirati youth, especially young girls, to pursue sports and compete at the highest levels. For the men’s duo, the bronze medal proves that with perseverance and teamwork, the UAE can stand tall against some of Asia’s best rowers.
As the curtain falls on the 2025 Asian Rowing Beach Sprint Finals, the UAE’s two medals serve as a reminder of the nation’s commitment to nurturing talent, investing in sports, and raising its flag high at international events. This achievement will surely inspire many more Emiratis to take up rowing and other challenging sports, strengthening the country’s position in the global sports arena.
