As the New Year approaches, residents in the UAE are gearing up for a three-day weekend, providing an excellent opportunity for a road trip to Oman with family and friends. For those opting for a visa-on-arrival (approximately Dh50), the essential documents include a passport, Emirates ID, and a printed copy of the Mulkiya or car registration. Alternatively, various bus routes connect UAE to Oman, starting at Dh50 from Ras Al Khaimah (RAK), Dh100 from Dubai, and Dh110 from Abu Dhabi. Oman, known for its diverse natural landscapes, offers attractions like the tropical vibes in Salalah, the stunning beauty of Musandam, and the mountainous terrain of Jebel Akdar.

For a quick weekend escape, Muscat, the capital, is an ideal destination. Surrounded by impressive grey mountains and the Sea of Oman, Muscat provides breathtaking views of mountainous sunrises and sunsets. The city boasts a laid-back lifestyle, offering a refreshing change for UAE residents. The Muttrah Corniche provides a scenic walk along the sea, while the Muttrah Souk, dating back two centuries, offers a historic shopping experience, including Omani souvenirs and frankincense.

For a more nature-centric escape, Salalah stands out, featuring attractions like the Darbat Falls, Mughsail Beach, and Marneef Cave. Darbat Falls offer a refreshing green landscape, while Mughsail Beach showcases the natural beauty of waves crashing through limestone formations, creating water plumes. Marneef Cave presents stunning rock formations with benches providing a perfect spot to enjoy the view. Additionally, shopping at Al Husn Souq offers a range of gifts and souvenirs.

Musandam, a popular destination, is a four-hour drive from Dubai to Khasab, known for its geographical diversity, flora, fauna, historic landmarks, and archaeological attractions. A dhow ride is a must-do activity in Musandam. Overall, the New Year's road trip to Oman promises a memorable experience, with options ranging from cultural exploration to nature retreats.
