Some of the main events held in the UAE this year were the 8th Jiu-Jitsu Asian Championship, the 5th IMMAF Youth World Championships, and the 16th Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship. These events had more athletes joining than ever before, with players from many countries competing. A new event, the Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Jiu-Jitsu Championship, was also introduced. This event had five rounds and included different age groups for both Gi and no-Gi competitions. Other competitions like the Jiu-Jitsu President’s Cup, Vice President’s Jiu-Jitsu Cup, and Mother of the Nation Jiu-Jitsu Cup also showed how much the UAE supports the sport.
The Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship was one of the biggest events, with over 9,000 athletes from 137 countries taking part. This event made Abu Dhabi even more famous as a top place for jiu-jitsu. The Abu Dhabi Grand Slam Jiu-Jitsu Championship also had athletes from more than 140 countries. This year, the number of athletes increased by 20%. Cash prizes of more than six million dirhams were given to winners, making it a great inspiration for all athletes.
UAE athletes did very well in 2024. They won 23 medals at the Gulf Youth Games, 18 medals in the adult group at the Jiu-Jitsu Asian Championship, and 41 medals in youth groups of the same competition. The athletes also won 15 medals in the Grand Prix Thailand Open, 18 medals in the World Jiu-Jitsu Cup in Croatia, 24 medals in the JJAU Regional Championship West Asia in Jordan, and 9 medals in the adult group at the Jiu-Jitsu World Championship in Greece. Youth athletes won 42 medals in the same championship, showing how strong the younger players are.
The federation also worked hard to grow mixed martial arts (MMA). It held five rounds of the Youth MMA Championship for young athletes. The IMMAF Youth World Championships happened at Mubadala Arena and had over 800 athletes from 47 countries. UAE athletes performed really well, which shows the growing love for MMA in the country.
The UAE's success in sports comes from the support of the country's leaders. His Excellency Abdulmunem Alhashmi, Chairman of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts Federation, thanked His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, for their help. He said their vision has created a great environment for athletes to grow and achieve success.
In 2024, His Excellency Abdulmunem Alhashmi was reappointed as Senior Vice President of the Jiu-Jitsu International Federation for four more years. This is a big honor and shows how important the UAE is in the world of sports.
This year, the federation organized more than 20 competitions. The Abu Dhabi Jiu-Jitsu Pro (AJP) rounds gave many athletes a chance to qualify for the Abu Dhabi World Jiu-Jitsu Award. Events like the Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Jiu-Jitsu Championship and the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam Jiu-Jitsu Championship supported both top players and new talent.
The achievements in 2024 show how much the UAE has grown in jiu-jitsu and mixed martial arts. By hosting important events and supporting its athletes, the UAE is inspiring the next generation. These successes are a result of hard work, strong leadership, and the dedication of athletes, making the future of sports in the UAE very bright.
