Dubai — The UAE has once again solidified its claim as an aviation safety powerhouse. A leading global airline safety ranking for 2025 has placed Emirates and Etihad Airways among the top five safest full-service carriers, while flydubai and Air Arabia earned spots in the top 25 safest low-cost airlines—a full sweep across segments.
The rankings, compiled by AirlineRatings.com, evaluate airlines based on serious incidents, fleet age and size, safety certifications, pilot training, and financial health. In the full-service category, Air New Zealand ranked first, followed by Qantas, with Cathay Pacific, Qatar Airways, and Emirates sharing third place. Etihad came in fifth. These accolades reflect the UAE’s modern fleets and world-class safety systems.

Emirates operates a fleet dominated by Airbus A380s and Boeing 777s. Its modern aircraft, coupled with rigorous safety protocols and exceptional training, earned it high praise. Etihad, widely recognised for its adherence to international safety audits and compliance, claimed the fifth position. AirlineRatings.com noted that both carriers demonstrated consistently low incident rates and strong pilot preparedness.
In the low-cost sector, flydubai and Air Arabia ranked 11th and 18th respectively. Assessed against the same stringent criteria as full-service airlines, these listings highlight that affordable fares don’t mean compromised safety. Airbus and Boeing planes, regular maintenance schedules, and standardised pilot training contributed to their high standings.
Aviation experts say these results reinforce the UAE’s strong emphasis on air safety across all operational tiers. The General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) oversees regulations and enforces strict compliance with global norms; its oversight was cited as a key factor behind airline safety records.
What does this mean for passengers? It confirms the UAE as an ideal region for air travel, whether flying premium or budget lines. It underlines an industry-wide commitment—from fleet maintenance to advanced safety systems. Authorities and travellers alike celebrate the outcome as both reassurance and competitive advantage for the UAE's aviation sector.
Beyond safety, Emirates is poised for another milestone: becoming the world’s first “Autism-Certified Airline,” with staff trained to assist passengers on the autism spectrum and sensory-sensitive travellers. This initiative underscores the UAE’s broader vision of inclusivity and excellence alongside safety.
As sector-wide trends continue toward innovation and customer focus, these rankings provide a clear signal: safety leadership, modern fleets, and regulatory excellence are core strengths of UAE carriers. Their global standings not only protect travellers—they enhance the nation’s brand as a secure and forward-looking travel hub.
