Typhoon Trami, the sixth typhoon to impact the East Sea this year, made landfall in central Vietnam on October 27 at approximately 1 PM. The storm affected several localities, including Thua Thien-Hue, Da Nang, and Quang Nam, bringing with it heavy rainfall and strong winds
The National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting indicated that the maximum wind speed near the storm's center reached level 8, with speeds between 62 and 74 km/h, and gusts escalating to level 10. This intensity of the storm resulted in widespread damage, particularly in Da Nang, where strong gales knocked down numerous trees along major streets such as Quang Trung and Nguyen Van Linh. The winds were powerful enough to tear roofs off buildings, leaving structures vulnerable to the elements.
In Thua Thien-Hue, the impact of storm surges led to flooding in the Phu Thuan commune of Phu Vang district. The sea level rose by about 0.5 meters, and continuous wave action eroded the coastline, pushing back the banks by approximately 50 meters over the preceding days.

Authorities are on high alert, with the meteorological agency warning of a significant risk of flooding in low-lying coastal regions. There is also a heightened concern for the potential erosion of dykes and embankments along the coastline from Quang Tri to Quang Nam, which could further exacerbate flooding conditions.
Before making landfall in central Vietnam, Typhoon Trami caused devastation in the northwestern Philippines on October 25, resulting in at least 85 fatalities and leaving 41 individuals missing. The destruction in the Philippines highlights the severe impact of the storm as it traverses through the region, prompting ongoing vigilance and response efforts from local authorities in Vietnam.
