US President Donald Trump has stopped all military help to Ukraine, a White House official said on Monday. This happened after Trump had a serious argument with Ukraine’s President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, last week. The White House official, who did not want to be named, said that the US government is checking if the aid is really helping to bring peace. "The President wants peace. Our partners should also work for peace. We are stopping and checking our help to see if it is really making things better," the official said.

Zelenskyy’s office did not reply when Reuters asked for a comment outside working hours. The decision to stop the aid comes at a time when Trump has changed how the US deals with Ukraine. Since becoming President in January, Trump has been softer towards Russia and has questioned why the US is giving so much help to Ukraine in its war against Russia.
The issue got worse last Friday when Trump met Zelenskyy at the White House. Trump was angry and told Zelenskyy that he should be more thankful for all the help the US had given to Ukraine. The argument became public when Trump got upset over an Associated Press report. In the report, Zelenskyy said the war was still "very, very far away" from ending.
Trump did not like this and wrote on Truth Social, "This is the worst thing Zelenskyy could have said. America will not accept this for much longer!" Trump has often said that Ukraine should be more grateful for the billions of dollars the US has sent in money and weapons since Russia attacked Ukraine three years ago.
Even though the two leaders are not on good terms right now, Trump hinted on Monday that a business deal with Ukraine over minerals might still happen. The US government wants access to Ukraine’s rich supply of important minerals, like lithium and rare earth elements. Trump’s team believes this deal will help America get back some of the money it gave to Ukraine. However, some Ukrainian and European leaders worry that such a deal might take away some of Ukraine’s control over its own resources.
When reporters asked if the deal was canceled, Trump first said, "No, I don’t think so." Later, he said, "This is a great deal for us," and suggested that talks were still going on. He also said he would share more details when he speaks to Congress on Tuesday night.
Meanwhile, some European leaders are trying to find a way to stop the war between Russia and Ukraine. These new developments show that there is a growing effort to bring peace, but at the same time, tensions between the US and Ukraine are increasing.
