United States President Donald Trump has openly withdrawn his support for Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, escalating a dramatic political rift just days before a highly anticipated congressional vote on releasing the remaining Jeffrey Epstein files.
In a late-night post on Truth Social, Trump called Greene a “lunatic”, accused her of drifting “far left”, and declared that he was rescinding his endorsement. His abrupt message stunned many within the Republican Party, as Greene has been one of Trump’s most vocal and loyal defenders for years.
Trump wrote, “I am withdrawing my support and endorsement of ‘Congresswoman’ Marjorie Taylor Greene, of the great state of Georgia,” arguing that she “complains constantly” despite his administration’s accomplishments.
Greene Fires Back, Claims Trump Wants to Silence Republicans
Greene responded swiftly and sharply, releasing screenshots of a message she said she had sent Trump about the Epstein case—claiming it was the trigger behind Trump’s anger. In a long post on X, she accused the president of fighting harder to block the release of Epstein-related documents than he does to address issues affecting ordinary Americans.
“It’s astonishing how hard he’s fighting to stop the Epstein files from coming out,” Greene wrote, alleging Trump is targeting her “to make an example” and frighten other Republicans ahead of next week’s vote.
She added that many Americans “are going broke trying to feed their families” and urged Trump to show the same intensity in solving domestic problems.
Crucial Vote on Epstein Files Scheduled for Next Week
The internal conflict comes at a critical moment. House Speaker Mike Johnson has confirmed that the House will vote next week on whether to force the Department of Justice to release all remaining Epstein files.
The move follows the bipartisan Epstein Files Transparency Act, which Greene and three other Republicans signed. The petition bypasses party leadership and triggers a mandatory vote—one that could have far-reaching political consequences.
If approved, the measure would require the release of:
Epstein’s travel and flight logs
Names referenced in investigative documents
Files related to Ghislaine Maxwell
Additional material tied to the broader Epstein network
New Emails Renew Questions About Trump–Epstein Relationship
Tensions intensified earlier this week when Democrats released new emails linking Trump more closely to Epstein. One email claimed that Trump had “spent hours” at Epstein’s residence with one of the victims, though the White House rejected the claim and called the communications meaningless.
Trump has long insisted that the idea of an “Epstein client list” involving him is a “hoax” manufactured by political opponents.
Greene Calls Trump’s Strategy a ‘Huge Miscalculation’
In a Friday interview, Greene said Trump’s attempt to distance himself was a major strategic error. She insisted she does not believe he has anything to hide but argued that resisting transparency only fuels suspicion.
She also accused Trump of abandoning her politically after she opposed aspects of his administration’s handling of the recent government shutdown and cuts to healthcare subsidies.
Trump Says Greene Is “Unpopular” in Georgia
Trump, however, claims the dispute has nothing to do with Epstein. Instead, he said Greene has been angry with him because he discouraged her from running for Senate or governor given her low poll numbers.
He further stated that Republicans in Georgia are “fed up with her antics” and that he would fully support any viable candidate who challenges her in the next midterm elections.
