On Wednesday, teams searched the sea and found the wreckage of the plane. The Premier of Western Australia, Roger Cook, said that three people had died, and four others survived. The people who died were a 65-year-old woman from Switzerland, a 60-year-old man from Denmark, and the 34-year-old Australian pilot. The survivors were a 63-year-old Swiss man, a 58-year-old Danish woman, and an Australian couple in their 60s.
Cook told reporters, "Three people lost their lives when the plane crashed right after taking off." He added that the crash happened in front of many tourists, including families with children, who were enjoying their summer holiday on the island.
Some early reports said the plane might have hit a rock as it took off, but this has not been confirmed. Cook said the cause of the crash is still unknown.
Rottnest Island is about 30 kilometers (18 miles) from Perth. It is a popular tourist spot known for its animals and beautiful views. This crash has shocked many people, and officials are still trying to understand what caused it.
