Prabhas’ much-awaited horror-comedy The Raja Saab has opened to massive numbers at the box office, proving once again that the star’s fan following remains strong across markets. Despite being panned by critics, the film managed to cross the ₹100 crore mark worldwide on its very first day, including Thursday’s paid previews.
As per early estimates shared by trade tracking website Sacnilk.com, The Raja Saab earned approximately ₹26 crore from overseas markets on Day 1. In India, the film recorded a solid ₹54 crore net collection, along with ₹9 crore from paid previews, taking the total worldwide Day 1 collection to over ₹100 crore gross.
The strong opening highlights Prabhas’ box office pull, even in a genre shift. In The Raja Saab, the actor plays a hypnotist, marking a move away from his recent action-heavy roles.
Comparison With Prabhas’ Previous Release
Although The Raja Saab has posted impressive opening figures, it falls short of the record set by Prabhas’ last film, Kalki 2898 AD. The 2024 sci-fi epic had registered a massive ₹191 crore worldwide collection on Day 1, making it one of the biggest openers in Indian cinema history.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh had earlier reported that Kalki 2898 AD collected ₹27.5 crore from its Hindi version alone on opening day. The film performed strongly across all regions despite clashing with a high-profile India vs England cricket semi-final. Over its full theatrical run, Kalki 2898 AD went on to collect around ₹1100 crore worldwide.
Impact on Other Films at the Box Office
The release of The Raja Saab has also affected the box office run of Dhurandhar, directed by Aditya Dhar. After enjoying a successful run of over a month and collecting more than ₹1200 crore worldwide, Dhurandhar has finally slowed down.
On its 36th day, Dhurandhar managed to collect only ₹3.5 crore, indicating a clear impact from The Raja Saab’s arrival in theatres.
About The Raja Saab
The Raja Saab is directed by Maruthi and produced by TG Vishwa Prasad under the banner People Media Factory. The film features an ensemble cast including Prabhas, Sanjay Dutt, Boman Irani, Malavika Mohanan, Nidhhi Agerwal, Riddhi Kumar, and Zarina Wahab.
Speaking about the film, Prabhas shared that the idea behind The Raja Saab was to deliver a complete entertainer rather than another action-packed film. He praised director Maruthi’s writing and highlighted the climax as one of the strongest elements of the film. The actor also expressed hope that the film would perform well during the festive Sankranti season.
According to the HT review, while The Raja Saab attempts to entertain through comedy and horror, it lacks depth and freshness. The review pointed out that the horror-comedy genre has been explored earlier in Indian cinema, and the film needed stronger storytelling to leave a lasting impact.
