The Vienna performances, part of Taylor Swift's European "Eras" tour, were abruptly canceled after authorities alerted the public to a potential terror plot. This decision followed a serious threat involving an alleged suicide attack.
On Wednesday, Taylor Swift publicly addressed the cancellations, expressing deep feelings of "fear" and "guilt" over the incident. The canceled Vienna shows were part of the European segment of Swift’s record-breaking tour, which began in Paris in May and has included stops in various cities across Europe. The tour, known for its sold-out performances, had been a major success until the recent disruption.
Authorities took action after discovering a terror plot linked to sympathizers of the Islamic State group. The Austrian police have detained three individuals suspected of being involved in the plot. The main suspect, a 19-year-old Austrian of North Macedonian descent, reportedly admitted to planning an attack with explosives and knives. This confession came through the Austrian domestic intelligence agency, led by Omar Haijawi-Pirchner.
Swift's social media post also conveyed her gratitude towards the authorities for their swift response, highlighting their role in preventing a potential tragedy. She remarked on the sense of relief that, while the concerts were canceled, no lives were lost. Additionally, she praised the solidarity and support shown by her fans during this challenging time.
The European leg of Swift’s tour wrapped up with five shows at London's Wembley Stadium on Tuesday, following an extensive itinerary that included stops in Sweden, Portugal, Spain, Britain, Ireland, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Italy, Germany, and Poland.
