Afghanistan is facing a severe humanitarian crisis after deadly floods and extreme weather conditions swept across multiple provinces, leaving at least 61 people dead and 116 others injured.
According to the Afghanistan Red Crescent Society, four individuals are still missing as rescue teams continue search operations and assess the extent of the damage caused by days of relentless rainfall and flash flooding.
The impact on infrastructure and livelihoods has been devastating. Reports indicate that 2,448 homes have been either fully or partially destroyed, forcing many families to seek shelter elsewhere. In addition, nearly 26,841 jeribs of agricultural land have been ruined, dealing a heavy blow to the country’s already fragile farming sector.
Livestock losses have also been significant, with more than 1,000 animals killed, further worsening the economic strain on rural communities that depend heavily on agriculture and animal husbandry.
Authorities have warned that the situation may deteriorate further, as forecasts predict more heavy rainfall, increasing the risk of additional floods, landslides, and storm-related damage.
Emergency response efforts are ongoing, but the scale of destruction highlights the urgent need for humanitarian assistance and long-term disaster management strategies in the region.
