Kazan, Russia – A thrilling chapter unfolded in the world of Purebred Arabian horse racing on Saturday, 30 August 2025, when Tawfiq stormed to victory in the UAE President’s Cup for Purebred Arabian Horses. This was the 10th stop of the Cup series, held at the Kazan International Equestrian Sand Racetrack, marking one of the most exciting races of the year.
The event was part of the 32nd edition of the historic Cup and coincided with the 35th National Day celebrations of the Republic of Tatarstan. More than 20,000 spectators filled the grandstands, enjoying a carnival-like atmosphere that showcased Tatar heritage, culture, and national pride.
A Prestigious Global Series
The UAE President’s Cup has become one of the world’s most respected racing series for Purebred Arabian horses. Over the years, it has traveled across Arab nations, Europe, and the United States, carrying with it a mission: to preserve the legacy of the Arabian horse, support breeders and owners, and strengthen cultural bonds through sport.
This global journey reflects the vision of the UAE leadership, who see the Arabian horse not only as a proud heritage symbol but also as an ambassador of cultural exchange between nations.

A Race to Remember
The Group 1 race in Kazan covered 1,800 meters and featured 16 strong competitors from leading Russian studs. With a total prize purse of USD 100,000, the competition attracted some of the finest horses in the region.
The race began with a steady, tactical pace as jockeys carefully positioned their horses for the final stretch. As the field reached the last turn, Tawfiq, ridden by Hamzat Ulubiev and trained by Sultan Semenov, surged ahead in a breathtaking duel with Voskhod Tersk.
In the final seconds, the crowd held its breath as the two horses raced neck-to-neck. In a heart-stopping finish, Tawfiq crossed the line just 0.05 seconds ahead, clocking 2:04.89 minutes. The narrow margin made it one of the closest finishes in recent years.
Final Standings:
* Tawfiq (General × Rolly Polly by Valina Des Fabries), owned by D.A. Chacota
* Voskhod Tersk (Haif Al Khalediah × Verika by Camelot)
* Medni Maximus (Maximus de Alip × Minorca by Mongrant)
The tight finish highlighted the exceptional quality of the horses and confirmed why the UAE President’s Cup is considered one of the most competitive platforms in global Arabian horse racing.
Celebrations and Honours
The winners were honoured in a grand ceremony attended by UAE Embassy officials in Moscow, including Ahmed Al Shehhi and Ibrahim Al Balushi, along with Saeed Khalifa Al Mehairi, representative of the Higher Organising Committee of the Cup. Russian racing officials and racetrack management also joined the celebrations, adding international importance to the occasion.
During the ceremony, Saeed Khalifa Al Mehairi praised the success of the Russian round:
“We are proud of the achievements in Kazan. The strong public turnout added immense value to this year’s series. The organisation was excellent, and the enthusiasm of the people showed how much this event means globally.”
He added that the Cup is more than just a race; it is a platform for cultural exchange and global unity, connecting people through the shared appreciation of Arabian horses.
A Cultural Festival Alongside Racing
The race was not just about competition. It was part of a larger festival in Tatarstan, where visitors enjoyed traditional music, dances, cultural displays, and local cuisine. The combination of sport and culture turned the event into a true celebration, attracting both horse-racing fans and families.
Global Recognition
The UAE President’s Cup continues to strengthen its position as a symbol of excellence in Arabian horse racing. With each round, it not only promotes sportsmanship but also reflects the UAE’s role in preserving and advancing the heritage of Purebred Arabians.
For fans, breeders, and trainers, the Kazan race will be remembered as one of the most thrilling contests in recent memory. For Tawfiq and his team, it was a moment of glory that will go down in the history of the Cup.
