TSMC, the biggest chip-making company in the world, has announced that it will invest $100 billion in the United States. The company will use this money to build five new chip factories over the next few years. The company’s CEO shared this news on Monday along with U.S. President Donald Trump.
TSMC is very important in the global chip industry. It makes chips for big companies like Apple, Nvidia, and Qualcomm. Taiwan is a major player in chip production, making some of the most powerful chips used in smartphones, artificial intelligence, and computers.
Even though TSMC is opening new factories in other countries, Taiwan will not share its most advanced chip-making technology. Government officials said Taiwan wants to work with other nations but must also protect its best technology.
Taiwan wants to stay the leader in making chips while also growing its business worldwide. The government believes that TSMC’s U.S. investment will improve ties between the two countries and help Taiwan stay strong in the global market.
At the same time, Taiwan understands that many countries are competing for the latest chip technology. Taiwan sees its chip industry as very important and will not risk losing its top position. Officials said Taiwan will keep investing in new technology to make sure it stays ahead.
With TSMC’s new plan, the company will make more chips in the U.S. and help America become more self-reliant in chip production. However, Taiwan will keep its most advanced chip technology within the country to remain the top leader in the industry.
