Exeter City Football Club has postponed their upcoming home match after a serious fire damaged the stadium’s control room last week. The damage was so severe that it cannot be repaired in time to make the stadium safe for fans and players. This unexpected problem has caused major disruption to the club, and safety officials advised that the match cannot go ahead as planned.

The fire affected several important systems inside the stadium. The electricity supply to the Adam Stansfield Stand was badly damaged, leaving that section unsafe and unusable. In addition, the fire destroyed the public address system, which is needed for crowd communication during emergencies. The fire alarm systems were also damaged, meaning the club could not guarantee safe evacuation in case of danger.

The stadium’s first aid rooms and internal computer networks were affected as well. Without power and proper safety systems, officials decided that hosting a football match would be unsafe. The club explained that all these systems are required for a match to take place under league safety rules.

As soon as the fire was brought under control, Exeter City began repair work earlier this week. Club staff, volunteers, and local businesses came together to try to fix the damage as fast as possible. They worked long hours to clean the area, replace burnt wiring, and check the safety of each system.

However, the repair team soon realised that the damage was far more extensive than they first expected. Many systems needed complete replacement, not just simple repairs. Special safety testing is also required before the stadium can be declared safe for use again. These tests take time and must be done by certified experts, which made it impossible for the stadium to be ready before the match date.

The club explained that repair costs are very high. While they plan to make an insurance claim, the money from insurance will take time to arrive. Because of this, Exeter City started a crowdfunding campaign to help pay for the emergency repairs. Supporters, local people, and businesses have already contributed, showing strong community support during this tough time.

The club thanked everyone who donated, saying the community’s help makes a big difference. They also said that without this support, repairs would take even longer.

In an official statement, the club said that they had made every effort to complete repairs, but it was simply not possible to finish the work in time. They praised the hard work of club staff, volunteers, and local companies who rushed to help. However, because the essential safety systems are still not working, they cannot host fans or players safely.

“Despite the extraordinary efforts of club staff, volunteers and local businesses, we are unable to complete the extensive repairs required, or to carry out the essential safety testing needed to ensure all systems are operating safely,” the statement said.

Exeter City confirmed that the match will be played at a later date. The club is now working with officials to choose a new date. They aim to reopen the stadium as soon as possible and promise to update supporters regularly.

The statement ended with a message of gratitude: “Everyone at Exeter City would like to thank our incredible supporters for their unwavering backing during this difficult time. We are stronger together.”
