Sharjah Ruler Launches Sheikha Jawaher Collection for Cultural Heritage

His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, the Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, issued an Emiri Decree on Monday to establish the Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al Qasimi Collection. According to the decree, a museum named the “Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al Qasimi Collection Museum” will be established in Sharjah, which will have legal personality, full independence to take the necessary actions to achieve its goals, and full financial and administrative autonomy. The museum’s ownership will be under the government of Sharjah, while all the collections displayed in the museum will be owned by Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al Qasimi.

The museum will be headed by Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, and its headquarters will be located in the Sharjah Creativity District. Additional branches may be established in other cities and regions of the emirate by decision of the president. The museum will be managed by a director, appointed by the president, and the director will be assisted by a sufficient number of employees.

The objectives of the museum, as stated in the decree, include:

  1. Displaying unique collections to inspire future designers, craftsmen, and craft enthusiasts, while highlighting the impact of Islamic and Arab craft traditions on historical and modern art forms.
  2. Celebrating Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al Qasimi's contributions to decorative arts, craftsmanship, and her humanitarian work.
  3. Enriching the public's culture and introducing visitors to various aspects of decorative arts, including jewelry, ceramics, textiles, and perfumes.
  4. Serving as a resource for researchers and experts in art history, archaeology, modern and contemporary art, and design.
  5. Promoting a better understanding of decorative arts, both traditional and modern craftsmanship, and design.
  6. Attracting local and international experts and artists.

To achieve its goals, the museum will have the following responsibilities:

  1. Formulating general policies and developing strategic plans to organize its work.
  2. Providing access to primary sources, historical documents, and academic publications, while establishing a digital archive for researchers worldwide.
  3. Supporting charitable initiatives related to arts and crafts and establishing a fund to support emerging artists and craftsmen.
  4. Hosting live craft shows, exhibitions, and events that showcase the museum’s collections and organizing workshops with experts in decorative arts, jewelry design, and perfume making.
  5. Organizing lectures, seminars, and conferences on decorative arts, craftsmanship, and their historical and contemporary influences.
  6. Offering specialized educational programs, organizing design competitions for art and design students, and providing mentorship to students in collaboration with practicing designers and artists.
  7. Developing a Student Ambassador Program in cooperation with the Irthi Contemporary Crafts Council to include students in museum activities and promote peer learning.
  8. Offering scholarships and supporting research focused on the history of decorative arts and craftsmanship.
  9. Establishing training and apprenticeship programs to provide practical experience in art, design, and craftsmanship.
  10. Forming agreements, contracts, and partnerships with academic and research institutions, local craftsmen, and international experts to strengthen the museum’s work.
  11. Seeking assistance from experts, consultants, and consulting firms to support all aspects of the museum’s operations, while cooperating with relevant authorities to obtain necessary administrative and technical support.

The museum is set to become a significant cultural and educational institution, dedicated to showcasing both traditional and contemporary art forms and contributing to the development of the decorative arts and craftsmanship fields.
