The Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) has voiced significant concerns regarding the treatment of its national squad in Morocco ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final on Sunday against the hosts.
In a statement released early Saturday, the FSF criticized the lack of adequate security encountered by the team upon their arrival in Rabat, subpar accommodation conditions, challenges with training facilities, and restricted ticket availability for Senegalese fans.
The federation has called upon the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and local organizers to swiftly address these issues to ensure fair treatment, safety, and equitable conditions for this significant continental championship.
After taking a train from Tangier to Rabat on Friday, Senegal’s players experienced what the federation characterized as a “clear lack of adequate security,” resulting in overcrowding and undue risks.
The FSF reported that it had to file a formal complaint to obtain suitable hotel accommodations, although details regarding the initial arrangements were not disclosed.
Additionally, the federation declined to use the Mohammed VI Complex for team training—where Morocco’s squad has been stationed throughout the tournament—casting doubt on the fairness of the facility. The training site for Senegal remains uncertain.
Concerns have also arisen over ticket sales, with Senegal acquiring only 2,850 tickets, which the federation deems “insufficient” given the overwhelming demand and limitations affecting Senegalese fans.
The final is set to be held at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, which accommodates up to 69,500 spectators. Morocco, aiming to end a 50-year title drought, has garnered strong fan support, while Senegal, reigning champions from 2021, will be contending for their second Africa Cup title.
The FSF has gone public with its grievances to foster transparency and advocate for the interests of its national team ahead of this pivotal football matchup.
