School Bus Bombing in Balochistan Kills 5, Injures 38

Post by : Layla Badr

A heartbreaking incident took place in the troubled region of Balochistan in southwestern Pakistan, where a suicide car bomb crashed into a school bus. According to a report, at least five people lost their lives in the blast, including three young children. Around 38 others were badly hurt.

The attack happened in Khuzdar, a district in Balochistan province. Local deputy commissioner Yasir Iqbal said the school bus was carrying children to school when the explosion happened. Right after the blast, security forces quickly reached the spot and blocked off the area to prevent more harm.

At first, officials said four children were killed. But later, they corrected the report and said that two of the victims were adults. Authorities also warned that the number of people who died could rise because several of the injured children were in critical condition.

No one has officially claimed responsibility for this terrible attack yet. But many believe that ethnic Baloch separatist groups might be behind it. These groups often carry out attacks on both civilians and security forces in this area. One such group is the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), which the United States listed as a terrorist organization back in 2019.

Pakistan’s interior minister, Mohsin Naqvi, strongly condemned the attack. He expressed his deep sorrow for the deaths of innocent children and called the attackers “beasts” who should not be shown any mercy. He described the incident as a brutal and heartless act.

Balochistan has seen violence and conflict for many years. Several separatist groups have attacked government forces and other targets. Just earlier this week, the BLA warned that they would carry out more attacks against the Pakistani army and others they call collaborators. They said their goal is to create a peaceful, independent Balochistan.

This school bus bombing comes only a few days after another deadly attack in the same province. In that earlier blast, a car bomb exploded near Jabbar Market in the city of Qillah Abdullah, close to the border with Afghanistan. Four people were killed and 20 others were injured. The explosion damaged many nearby buildings and caused panic in the area. The market is located near the back wall of the Frontier Corps (FC) Fort, and after the blast, there was a short gunfight between the attackers and FC soldiers.

Also, earlier on May 6, the Pakistani military reported that seven soldiers were killed when their vehicle was hit by a hidden bomb in Balochistan. They believe that members of the BLA carried out that attack too.

These recent events show that Balochistan continues to face serious security problems, with innocent lives — especially those of children — being caught in the middle of the violence.
