Russia attacked several cities in Ukraine early Friday morning, including the capital Kyiv, killing at least six people and injuring many more. This deadly strike came after Ukrainian drones destroyed Russian bomber aircraft deep inside Russian territory.
Russian President Vladimir Putin had warned that there would be a strong response. According to reports, he shared this message through former U.S. President Donald Trump. Soon after, missiles and drones were launched across Ukraine, causing widespread damage and fear.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that in Kyiv, three emergency workers were killed. They had rushed to help after the first strike, but sadly died when Russia hit the same area again. In the northern city of Chernihiv, two people were killed, and in Lutsk, another person lost their life.
Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said on social media that Russia was trying to take revenge for its destroyed aircraft by attacking regular people. Many apartment buildings were hit, and energy systems were damaged.

Russia’s Defence Ministry claimed the strikes were aimed at military targets and were a response to what they called Ukrainian “terrorist acts.” But many of the victims were civilians.
Former U.S. President Trump commented on the situation and said, “They gave Putin a reason to go in and bomb the hell out of them last night,” when asked about the drone attacks by Ukraine on Russian airbases.
President Zelensky said around 80 people were hurt across the country, and some may still be trapped under rubble. In Lutsk, a man was found dead in an apartment building, and rescuers were still looking for his wife. Schools and government offices were also damaged in the city.
In the western city of Ternopil, Russian missiles hit industrial areas, cutting off power in parts of the city. Ten people were injured, and authorities warned locals to stay inside because of toxic smoke from a fire.
Ukraine’s air force said that Russia used 407 drones in the attack—one of the largest numbers so far—along with 45 missiles.
Kyiv’s Transport System Also Hit
In Kyiv, the metro system was damaged after missiles hit the tracks between two stations. Train services were changed due to the damage. Loud explosions shook windows in several parts of the city. Some residents hid in metro stations and underground parking areas for safety.
In one Kyiv district, a Russian drone crashed into an apartment building, tearing a hole in the wall and burning part of it. Falling debris crushed parked cars, and investigators were seen examining parts of the drone.
Zelensky said Ukraine needed strong international support to stop Russia’s attacks. “If we wait longer, more people will die. We must act now,” he posted online.
Meanwhile, Ukraine’s military said it had carried out a night strike on two airbases inside Russia—Engels and Dyagilevo—as well as on fuel storage sites.
Last weekend, Ukrainian agents used small drones hidden in wooden boxes to destroy some of Russia’s strategic bombers. It was one of the most daring attacks of the war, which has now lasted over three years.
Trump also said on Friday that after speaking to Putin on Wednesday, he knew Russia was planning a response to the drone attacks.
