Singer Robbie Williams has revealed a concerning side effect from his use of weight loss injections, specifically the drug Mounjaro. He shared that he has been experiencing blurred vision, making it difficult to see fans during live performances.

Robbie, 51, has been using Mounjaro, a tirzepatide injectable popular for managing Type 2 diabetes and obesity. While praising the drug for its physical and mental health benefits, he described it as a “medical necessity” for his mental wellbeing. He said, “The lack of mental anguish I’ve felt since I’ve been on Mounjaro is liberating.”

Despite the benefits, Robbie admits his eyesight has suffered. He shared that people in the audience often appear as blurry shapes. “On my most recent tour, there’s this thing I do where I sing She’s The One to a girl every night, and little do they know I can’t see them.”

Over the years, his eye prescription has changed, forcing him to buy new glasses. Robbie explained that he wants to raise awareness: “I want to warn people reading this of the potential risks, to make sure they do their research.”

Recent research has examined potential eye-related side effects of weight loss drugs like semaglutide, the active ingredient in some medications including Ozempic and Wegovy. A 2024 study followed around 17,000 people over six years. Findings suggested a possible link between semaglutide and rare eye conditions that may increase vision loss risk, though the study did not prove a direct cause-and-effect relationship.

Experts note that underlying conditions like poorly managed diabetes, common among users of these drugs, can also contribute to eye problems. A 2024 study reported nine cases of vision complications among patients using weight loss injectables for Type 2 diabetes. These included optic nerve strokes and inflammation, with some cases leading to partial and potentially permanent vision loss.

Ophthalmologists stress the importance of monitoring and preventive care for anyone using weight loss injectables. They recommend weighing the risks and benefits with a healthcare team, monitoring vision changes such as blurriness or dark spots, consulting a doctor before stopping medications, attending regular eye screenings, and exercising extra caution for people with cardiovascular issues or a history of smoking.

Robbie Williams’ candid sharing highlights the importance of being aware of potential side effects of popular weight loss treatments and taking steps to safeguard overall and eye health.
