Manchester United and Real Sociedad played a 1-1 draw in the first match of their Europa League round of 16 tie at Anoeta Stadium on Thursday. Joshua Zirkzee gave United the lead just before the 60th minute, but the home team equalized 10 minutes later. A handball by Bruno Fernandes inside the penalty area gave Sociedad a chance to score from the spot, and Mikel Oyarzabal calmly put the ball into the net.

After the match, Sporting CP coach Rúben Amorim shared his thoughts. He said the game changed after the penalty and that United had been playing well before that moment.
In other matches from the Europa League, Lyon defeated Steaua Bucharest 3-1 at Arena Nacional. AZ Alkmaar surprised Tottenham Hotspur with a 1-0 victory at Avas Stadium. Rangers also had a strong performance, winning 3-1 against Fenerbahce at Fenerbahce Stadium.
The second leg of the round of 16 will take place next week, where teams will fight for a place in the next stage of the competition.
