Prince William and Kate Middleton returned to the red carpet for the first time in two years at the annual Royal Variety Performance, held at London’s Royal Albert Hall on November 19. The event raises funds for the Royal Variety Charity, which supports entertainment industry professionals.
This marked the couple’s sixth Royal Variety Performance appearance and their first red-carpet moment since November 2023. The Princess of Wales chose a green velvet gown with short sleeves and a V-neck, while Prince William complemented her look in a velvet suit jacket and black bow tie.
Welsh singer Katherine Jenkins performed the national anthem to welcome the royal couple. Kate Middleton also met singer Jessie J, a fellow cancer survivor, during the event.
The Princess of Wales made only a handful of public appearances last year while undergoing treatment for cancer, completing chemotherapy in September 2024. Speaking about her return to the event, Middleton expressed, “It’s so nice to be back,” highlighting the significance of this public reappearance after her recovery.
In a lighter moment, the royal couple met Paddington Bear. Nine-year-old twins, Emelie and Olivia Edwards, presented Middleton with a bouquet. She asked if they were fans of Paddington and shared that her children—George, Charlotte, and Louis—would be disappointed they couldn’t see the fictional bear in person, joking, “We are going to have to keep it a big secret.”
Prince William and Kate’s return to the public spotlight reflects both their commitment to charity work and a milestone in Middleton’s health journey, symbolizing resilience, hope, and the continuation of royal engagements.
