A serious train accident occurred in southern Czech Republic on Thursday, leaving 42 people injured. The crash involved an express train colliding with a passenger train near the city of Ceske Budejovice, about 150 kilometres south of Prague.
The incident happened early in the morning at around 05:19 GMT. Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene, evacuating all passengers safely from both trains. According to officials, 40 people suffered minor injuries, while two were reported to have serious injuries.
Rescue teams, including ambulances and fire services, worked promptly to secure the area and provide medical assistance to those affected. Spokespeople for the rail operator confirmed that all passengers had been safely removed from the trains, though details about the cause of the collision remain unclear.
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine how the crash occurred. The rail operator and local officials are cooperating fully, and safety experts will examine train operations, signaling systems, and track conditions to understand the factors that led to the collision.
Passengers at the scene described a chaotic experience, with many shaken by the sudden impact. Rail services in the area have been disrupted, and officials are advising travelers to check for updates before planning any journeys.
This accident marks one of the more serious rail incidents in the Czech Republic in recent years, highlighting the importance of ongoing safety measures on the country’s busy railway network.
