A flight operated by Air Europa was forced to divert after encountering severe turbulence, resulting in injuries to 30 passengers and an unusual incident where one passenger became trapped in an overhead bin. The incident occurred on Sunday during Flight UX45 from Madrid to Montevideo, when the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner experienced intense turbulence over the Atlantic Ocean.
The turbulence caused chaos inside the cabin, with passengers and loose items thrown about, leading to injuries among approximately thirty of the 345 passengers on board. One of the most astonishing moments was when a male passenger found himself stuck in an overhead bin. After the turbulence subsided, fellow passengers assisted in freeing him.

Due to the severity of the situation, the flight was diverted to Natal, Brazil, where injured passengers received immediate medical attention. Air Europa arranged for another aircraft to transport passengers to Montevideo after they spent the night at a local hotel to recover from the ordeal.
Witnesses described the scene as chaotic, with seats dislodged and debris scattered throughout the cabin. Clear air turbulence, identified by the pilot as the cause, poses significant dangers due to its invisible and unpredictable nature.
Air Europa confirmed that all hospitalized passengers are in stable condition and is cooperating with authorities to investigate the incident further. The airline emphasized the importance of wearing seatbelts during flights to minimize injuries during unexpected turbulence events.
