OpenAI has finished making its new reasoning AI model, o3 mini, and will launch it in a few weeks, said CEO Sam Altman.
The company, which gets support from Microsoft, listened to users’ feedback. Because of this, they will release both the API and ChatGPT together. Altman shared this news on the social media platform X.

In December, OpenAI said they were testing two new AI models called o3 and o3 mini. This shows that OpenAI wants to compete with companies like Google to build smarter models that can solve hard problems. OpenAI planned to launch o3 mini by the end of January, with the full o3 model coming later. These new models will be stronger than current ones, which could bring in more users and money.
In September 2024, OpenAI introduced the o1 models. These models are made to solve difficult problems in areas like science, coding, and math. The new o3 and o3 mini models will be even better than the o1 models.
Earlier this week, OpenAI added a new feature called "Tasks" to ChatGPT. This shows that they are starting to compete with virtual assistants like Apple’s Siri and Amazon’s Alexa.
The launch of ChatGPT in 2022 led to many companies investing in AI. This helped OpenAI raise $6.6 billion in a funding round in October.
