Norway is bracing for its strongest storm in 30 years (AFP)
Norway is currently preparing for the impact of what meteorologists anticipate to be its most powerful storm in three decades, named "Ingunn." Authorities have issued a warning, urging residents to stay indoors and take necessary precautions. The storm is projected to make landfall in central Norway around midday on Wednesday, with plans to move northward into Thursday.
Norwegian police have issued warnings indicating expected gusts ranging from 126 to 180 kilometers per hour. The highest level of warning, a red alert, has been declared for the Trondheim area, where strong winds are predicted on Wednesday. Another red alert has been issued for the Lofoten islands in the Arctic region along the coast.
Nils Karbø of the Norwegian Public Roads Administration emphasized the severity of red hazard warnings, stating that they should be taken with the utmost seriousness. Measures to secure loose objects and assess the feasibility of outdoor activities have been urged. Gunn Robstad Andersen from the Norwegian Labour Inspection Authority recommends employers encourage remote work and discourage unnecessary travel.
In response to the storm predictions, various infrastructures have been closed across Norway, including schools, roads, tunnels, and bridges. Additionally, some ferry lines connecting Norwegian islands have suspended their services.
With the impending storm, police have advised the public to avoid outdoor activities whenever possible. They also cautioned against potential hazards such as flying objects and emphasized the significance of staying vigilant for personal safety during the storm.
