Sharjah has taken a major step toward advancing its sports sector with the establishment of the Sharjah Sports Council (SSC). His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, issued an Emiri Decree formalizing the creation of the Council.
The decree appoints Sheikh Dr Khalid bin Humaid bin Saqr Al Qasimi as the Chairman of SSC, highlighting a leadership focused on strategic development in sports. Alongside him, eight distinguished members have been named to ensure a diverse and capable governance structure. The members include Dr Abdullah Abdulrahman Yousef bin Sultan, Adel Saleh Yousef Al Hammadi, Abdullah Sultan Al Dah Al Matroushi, Abdullah Mohammed Al Malih Al Fazari, Omar Hassan Ali bin Hanifa, Dr Abdulrahman Mohammed Al Yasi, Dr Saif Ahmed Saif Khalaf Al Zaabi, and Hanan Mohammed Al Mahmoud.
The formation of SSC marks a significant commitment by the emirate to nurture talent, improve sports infrastructure, and create more opportunities for athletes at all levels. The council is expected to oversee initiatives that support youth development, enhance community engagement in sports, and organize local, regional, and international sporting events within Sharjah.
This move aligns with the emirate’s vision to strengthen its position as a hub for sports and wellness in the region. By bringing together experts from various sectors, SSC aims to implement strategies that combine innovation, inclusivity, and sustainability in Sharjah’s sports ecosystem.
