Netflix announced on Friday that it sees growing opportunities for live events in South Korea, as the streaming giant prepares to broadcast the highly anticipated BTS comeback concert.
At a press conference, Brandon Riegg, Netflix’s vice president of nonfiction series and sports, said the company’s investment in Korea will continue to grow. He described the BTS event, scheduled for Saturday at Seoul’s historic Gwanghwamun Square, as “a spectacle unlike anything we’ve seen before.”
Riegg added, “I would imagine that with our commitment to partnering with our producers in Korea, there will be many other opportunities for other live events. We have some things perhaps in the works I can’t speak to right now.”
The one-hour concert will celebrate BTS’ first new album in over three years and kick off their global tour in April. Netflix will stream the concert live to 190 countries, marking its first-ever global live music broadcast.
To support future live events, Netflix is also investing in infrastructure in South Korea. Riegg said, “Korean culture and entertainment are so beloved, it makes sense to continue deepening that partnership.”
Additionally, Reuters reported that Netflix is planning a K-Pop “Demon Hunters” world tour, leveraging the popularity of its top movie in the region.
