To accommodate the influx of travelers during the Thingyan festivities, Myanmar Railways is introducing additional train services. These special trains will complement regular schedules on essential routes, including Yangon–Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon–Pyay, and Yangon–Mawlamyine, enhancing connectivity for passengers across the country.

Set to operate on specific dates in April, the extra trains boast meticulously planned timetables tailored to peak seasonal demand. The initiative aims to facilitate travel for tourists, workers, and government staff returning home to celebrate the annual holiday.

Officials have confirmed that ticket prices and station stops for these extra trains will mirror those of standard services. This strategy ensures that travel remains budget-friendly and accessible at a time when millions are expected to travel.

Enhanced ticketing options are also on offer, allowing passengers to book tickets ahead of time at stations or through the Online Railway Ticketing and Payment System (ORTP). This advance planning can help avoid the usual last-minute rush.

The special trains will operate at full capacity, featuring a combination of upper-class and standard coaches, significantly alleviating crowding and contributing to a more pleasant travel experience during one of the year's busiest periods.

In conjunction with this added service, some regular passenger and commuter trains will pause operations from April 13 to 16, coinciding with the height of the Thingyan celebrations. Officials declared that these temporary modifications are a part of a wider strategy to efficiently manage resources and traffic flow.

All train operations are set to resume regular schedules following the holiday, reinstating comprehensive service across Myanmar’s rail network. Scenic routes may also be available depending on demand, providing travelers with more festive travel options.
