Correctional Service Canada officials confirmed a substantial confiscation of contraband at Archambault Institution, a multi-level security federal prison in Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines. The operation occurred on April 7, 2026, driven by the sharp vigilance of the facility's staff.
The haul included illegal drugs such as cocaine, hashish, and shatter, in addition to tobacco products and mobile phone accessories. The total estimated value of the confiscated goods is approximately $75,000, underscoring the scale of attempted smuggling operations within the prison.
Authorities highlighted that thwarting the flow of drugs and other unauthorized goods into correctional facilities is a paramount concern. To combat this, Correctional Service Canada employs advanced security measures, including ion scanners and specially trained drug-detection dogs, which are utilized to inspect inmates, visitors, buildings, and personal items for hidden contraband.
Officials are ramping up efforts to bolster security within federal institutions and are collaborating closely with law enforcement to identify and prosecute those linked to smuggling or trafficking illegal items into prisons—actions deemed a grave risk to the safety of inmates, staff, and visitors.
In addition to physical security enhancements, authorities have urged the public to report suspicious behavior. A confidential tip line has been set up across federal institutions, allowing individuals to provide anonymous information as part of a broader initiative to uphold a secure environment in correctional facilities.
Overall, this recent seizure illustrates the unwavering commitment of correctional authorities to fight against contraband smuggling and enforce stricter control within Canadian prisons.
