Preparations for Mumbai City FC’s AIFF Super Cup semifinal against FC Goa were thrown into turmoil due to significant flight delays. The squad, set to depart from Mumbai to Goa on Wednesday, November 3, was trapped at the airport for more than 12 hours, reaching Goa at 2 a.m. on the day of the 8 p.m. match.
Head coach Petr Kratky and midfielder Brandon Fernandes even held the pre-match media session from the airport. “We were at the airport since 11 a.m. Attempting to prepare, but circumstances were against us. This impacted our performance in the opening 20-30 minutes as we arrived so late in the morning,” Kratky noted following Mumbai City’s tight 1-2 defeat.
The team committed unusual errors early on, allowing two swift goals that proved crucial. While Mumbai City displayed improved play in the second half, they failed to secure the equalizer necessary to stay in the competition.
Kratky commended his players for their determination despite the adverse conditions. “I am proud of the boys. We made it tough for Goa and did our best under the circumstances, but some things were beyond our control. It was a very challenging day,” he remarked.
