The weekend will have races for top male and female athletes on Saturday, February 15, and a Mixed Relay race on Sunday, February 16. There will also be races for para-athletes and age-group participants, giving more people a chance to take part.
His Excellency Aref Al Awani, General Secretary of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council (ADSC), said he is proud that Abu Dhabi is hosting this big triathlon event. He said that the race shows the values of hard work, never giving up, and being the best in sports. He added that choosing Hudayriyat Island as the venue proves Abu Dhabi’s goal of offering top-class sports experiences. The island has a mix of natural beauty and modern facilities, making it a perfect place for exciting races. He is happy to welcome athletes and fans from different countries to enjoy this big sports event in the UAE capital.
He also talked about how the UAE has successfully organized many top sports events. He believes this championship will continue to be great, as many top athletes from different countries will compete. He also encouraged local people to join the races, as there will be events for all fitness levels, including races for para-athletes.
Bill O’Regan, Group CEO of Modon, said he is excited to welcome the 16th edition of the World Triathlon Championship Series to Hudayriyat Island. He said the island is becoming a famous sports place worldwide. It has a specially built cycling track and a beautiful coastline, making it the perfect place for the world’s best triathletes. He is sure the event will be a great experience for both athletes and fans. He also wished all the competitors the best of luck.
The men’s race will be led by Hayden Wilde from New Zealand, who won a silver medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics. He wants to start the season strong after doing well in 2024. His top rival, Alex Yee from the United Kingdom, will not be in Abu Dhabi because he is training for the London Marathon. This gives Wilde a big chance to take the lead. Other strong competitors include Matt Hauser from Australia, Vasco Vilaça from Portugal, Jonas Schomburg from Germany, and Brazilian athletes Manoel Messias and Miguel Hidalgo. The 5km final part of the race will be fast and exciting on Hudayriyat Island’s smooth track.
The women’s race will have strong competition from German athletes Lisa Tertsch and Laura Lindemann. Olympic gold medalist Gwen Jorgensen from the United States is returning to compete in the full World Triathlon Championship Series. Another American athlete, Taylor Spivey, wants to do better than her 2023 performance in Abu Dhabi. Defending champion Leonie Periault from France will try to keep her title. Other top female competitors include Jeanne Lehair from Luxembourg, Tilda Månsson from Sweden, and Rosa Maria Tapia from Mexico.
Taylor Spivey shared that she is excited to return to Abu Dhabi for the championship. She said the city is a great place to start the season, and she always feels welcomed there. She is looking forward to the race and hopes to perform well, making this season one to remember.
Besides the professional races, there will be race options for amateur athletes and first-time participants. This makes the event a great opportunity for fitness lovers to join an international sports competition. Whether someone is an experienced athlete or a beginner, everyone is welcome to take part and enjoy the excitement of racing on a world-class course.
Abu Dhabi continues to host big sports events, and the Modon World Triathlon Championship Series Abu Dhabi 2025 will be another exciting event. It will bring together athletes and fans for a weekend full of great competition, community participation, and celebration.
