Actor Meezaan Jafri, son of veteran entertainer Jaaved Jaaferi, recently opened up about the misconceptions surrounding star kids in Bollywood. He addressed the common assumption that children of film personalities have an easy path in the industry, explaining that the reality is far more complex.
“People often think that star kids have it easy. That’s a misconception,” Meezaan said. “Yes, there might be certain advantages, like getting opportunities early, but there’s also a lot of baggage and expectation that comes with being a star kid. Sometimes, it’s actually easier for someone to enter the industry without that burden because you get to start with a clean slate.”
Meezaan emphasized that every actor, whether from a film family or not, faces their own set of challenges. “Everyone has their pros and cons. Everyone has their journey. Instead of pointing fingers, it’s important to understand that it’s difficult for everyone at every stage,” he added.
The actor also spoke about groupism in the industry, noting that everyone has their own circle of actors or associates, and talent management agencies often align themselves with specific production houses. These dynamics, he said, create both opportunities and challenges for newcomers, star kids or otherwise.
Meezaan began his journey in Bollywood as an assistant director to Sanjay Leela Bhansali on films such as Bajirao Mastani and Padmaavat. He made his acting debut with Bhansali’s production Malaal, starring alongside Sharmin Sehgal. Despite the film’s failure at the box office, Meezaan continued to carve a niche for himself, featuring in films like Hungama 2, Yaariyan 2, and The Miranda Brothers.
Currently, Meezaan is receiving praise for his role in De De Pyaar De 2, directed by Anshul Sharma and produced by T-Series Films and Luv Films. The romantic comedy-drama stars Ajay Devgn, Rakul Preet Singh, and R. Madhavan alongside him. While the film received mixed reviews from critics, it has been performing well commercially, earning ₹61.85 crore at the domestic box office.
Meezaan’s reflections highlight that being a star kid doesn’t guarantee success; the industry comes with pressures, expectations, and unique hurdles. His candid perspective offers insight into the challenges faced by actors navigating Bollywood, regardless of their background.
