In a surprising development, two of the United Arab Emirates' (UAE) prominent gaming and raffles draw operators, Mahzooz and Emirates Draw, have announced a temporary suspension of their activities from January 1, 2024. While both entities assured players that the pause is not permanent, they did not specify a definitive timeline for the resumption of their gaming operations.

The decision to halt raffles aligns with the latest directives issued by the UAE Gaming Regulatory Authority (GCGRA), a federal body established in September to introduce a regulatory framework for national lottery and commercial gaming. The GCGRA's mission is to foster a "socially responsible" gaming environment, ensuring that all participants adhere to strict guidelines and comply with the highest standards. This move reflects the authority's commitment to creating a well-regulated gaming landscape within the UAE.

Mahzooz, addressing the pause in its Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) section, stated that no draws would be held after December 30, 2023, until further notice from regulators. Meanwhile, Emirates Draw suspended the sale of tickets in the UAE after December 31, emphasizing that the temporary pause from January 1, 2024, aims to facilitate the return with an "enhanced gaming experience soon."

One notable aspect of the temporary halt is its industry-wide nature, as Mahzooz described it as an "industry-wide mandate" in alignment with regulators' efforts. While the immediate impact is felt by Mahzooz and Emirates Draw, it remains uncertain when other gaming companies in the UAE will follow suit or if they will be subject to similar directives from the regulatory authority.

Concerns arise regarding the fate of ticket sales during the pause. Mahzooz clarified that no draws would be conducted until regulators provide further guidance. Emirates Draw, on the other hand, assured customers that existing accounts would remain active even during the pause. The company outlined that customers could request the withdrawal of any remaining account balance, providing reassurance to participants about the security of their funds.

The question of refunds for credit balances in e-wallets has been addressed by both operators. Customers holding credit balances can request withdrawals, offering a transparent and customer-centric approach to managing funds during the temporary hiatus. Emirates Draw specifically highlighted the security of existing account balances, emphasizing that these balances would be secure until the resumption of operations or until users decide to withdraw them.

A critical aspect for participants is the status of existing accounts during the pause. Emirates Draw assured users that existing accounts would remain active, with balances secure until the resumption of operations or until customers opt for withdrawals. However, certain features such as creating new accounts, purchasing tickets, or adding credits would be temporarily paused during this period.

One of the key assurances provided by both Mahzooz and Emirates Draw is the commitment to honoring all prizes won in previous draws. Regardless of the prize size, players have the assurance that they can withdraw and receive their winnings in full. This commitment reinforces the operators' dedication to maintaining trust and integrity, even amid the temporary suspension of gaming activities.

As participants eagerly await the resumption of draws, Mahzooz has expressed optimism about resuming operations "soon," potentially in the first quarter of 2024, pending approval from regulators. The operator expressed gratitude for the understanding of participants during this brief hiatus. Emirates Draw, on the other hand, indicated that detailed information about the resumption of operations would be communicated through official channels at the appropriate time.

In conclusion, the temporary suspension of gaming and raffles draw operations by Mahzooz and Emirates Draw in the UAE reflects a broader industry-wide mandate in accordance with directives from the UAE Gaming Regulatory Authority. The move underscores the authority's commitment to establishing a socially responsible gaming environment, ensuring compliance with stringent guidelines. Participants are reassured about the security of their funds, with both operators allowing the withdrawal of credit balances and affirming the continuity of existing accounts. The commitment to honoring prizes won in previous draws further reinforces the operators' dedication to maintaining transparency and trust. As the industry anticipates the resumption of gaming activities, participants and stakeholders will closely monitor developments and communications from regulatory authorities and the operators involved.
