The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai has finished a major part of the Al Shindagha Corridor project, one of the largest road developments in the city's history. The final and fifth bridge at the intersection of Sheikh Rashid Road and Al Mina Street has now opened, marking the end of this important phase. This means smooth and continuous traffic now flows from Al Garhoud Bridge all the way to Infinity Bridge and beyond, including routes towards Port Rashid and the Waterfront Market.
This massive road project covers key areas like Sheikh Rashid Road, Al Mina Street, Al Khaleej Street, and Cairo Street. It includes 18 kilometers of bridges and tunnels and serves more than one million people living in places like Deira and Bur Dubai. The project is expected to cut travel time along the corridor from 104 minutes to just 16 minutes by the year 2030. It will also increase the road’s capacity from 6,400 vehicles per hour to 24,000 vehicles per hour, making it easier and quicker for everyone to travel.

The RTA began this project under the guidance of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, with close follow-up from His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Their goal was to support the growing needs of the city and improve roads for the people.
One of the main parts of the project was the building of five new bridges near Al Mina Street and Sheikh Rashid Road. These bridges have a total length of 3.1 kilometers and can handle around 19,400 vehicles every hour. In addition to the bridges, new pedestrian bridges were built to make walking safer on Sheikh Rashid Road and Al Mina Street. The surface roads and intersections were also upgraded to improve traffic from Jumeirah Street, Al Mina Street, and Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah Street.
Another key part of the project is the Falcon Intersection at Khalid Bin Al Waleed Road and Al Mina Street. This intersection now includes three bridges and a tunnel that help around 28,800 vehicles pass through every hour. These upgrades are important for keeping traffic moving smoothly between Al Khaleej Street and other nearby roads.
The project also included the construction of the iconic Infinity Bridge, known for its beautiful design shaped like the infinity symbol. The bridge is 295 meters long and stands 15.5 meters above the sea, allowing boats to pass under it. It has 12 lanes for vehicles and a special lane for cyclists. The steel arch on the bridge alone used 2,400 tonnes of steel.
The Infinity Bridge is part of a double-deck route that helps cars move easily from Bur Dubai to Deira. This part of the road is 1.7 kilometers long and has six lanes in each direction. Several traffic signals and smaller roads have also been built under the elevated road to improve local access.
To make it easier to reach Dubai Islands, five bridges were built from Deira side. These bridges allow cars to enter and exit Dubai Islands directly from Al Khaleej Street. Each bridge is built for different directions and helps over 20,000 vehicles per hour in total. The area near Al Khaleej Street was also improved to make driving safer and faster.
Work is still going on for the Al Khaleej Street Tunnel, which is 1.65 kilometers long and has three lanes in both directions. This tunnel starts near the end of the Infinity Bridge in Deira and goes all the way to the intersection with Cairo Street. The tunnel will make travel smoother between Infinity Bridge and Deira once finished.
Along with the tunnel, the intersections at Cairo Street and Al Wuheida Street are being changed from roundabouts into traffic-light intersections. These changes are being made to improve the way cars move and to prepare for future traffic needs.
Another major project that has now started is a bridge connecting Bur Dubai to Dubai Islands. This new bridge will be 1.425 kilometers long with four lanes in each direction and will stand 18.5 meters above Dubai Creek to allow boats to pass under. It will also have a walkway and cycle path, along with lifts on both sides to help people cross easily.
This bridge will help connect the Bur Dubai side directly to Dubai Islands and make travel faster and easier. It is part of the RTA’s plan to support future developments and improve the quality of life for all residents.
Overall, the Al Shindagha Corridor project is a major achievement for Dubai’s road system. It improves traffic, saves travel time, supports economic growth, and makes roads safer and easier for everyone.
