In a tragic accident on Friday, an Indian-registered passenger bus fell into the Marsyangdi River in Nepal's Tanahun district, resulting in the deaths of at least 11 people. The bus, which was carrying around 40 passengers, was en route from Pokhara to Kathmandu when it plunged off the road and into the river.
The incident was confirmed by DSP Deepkumar Raya from the district police office in Tanahun. He reported that the bus, bearing the number plate UP FT 7623, came to rest on the riverbank after the plunge.
Efforts are underway by Uttar Pradesh authorities to determine if any passengers from the Indian state were involved in the accident. The cause of the accident has not been immediately disclosed, but the region has been experiencing heavy rainfall.

In a related incident in July, two buses were swept into the swollen Trishuli River in Nepal, killing 65 people. The buses involved were the Kathmandu-bound Angel bus and the Ganpati Deluxe, which was traveling from Kathmandu to Gaur in Rautahat. The disaster occurred due to a landslide triggered by heavy rains, pushing the vehicles off the road and into the river.
The monsoon season has been particularly harsh this year in Nepal. According to reports from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, at least 62 people have died and 90 others have been injured in rain-related incidents up to July. The authority has warned that the current monsoon is expected to be more intense than usual, potentially affecting 1.8 million people and 412,000 households across the country.
As rescue operations continue, the focus remains on retrieving those still missing and investigating the circumstances surrounding this devastating accident.
