In the UAE, the Emirates ID is very important. It’s more than just a card. You need it for many things—like opening a bank account, getting a job, renting a house, or buying a SIM card. Without it, you can’t do many everyday tasks. So, when there is a delay in getting your Emirates ID, it can really affect your life. If you’re facing delays, this guide will help you understand why it happens and how you can get your Emirates ID faster.
The Emirates ID is given by the UAE government (ICP – Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs & Port Security). It proves who you are, your residency, and your nationality. You need it for most official work, medical services, and even for travel to nearby countries like those in the GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council).
If your Emirates ID is delayed, it can stop you from doing important things. That’s why it’s necessary to fix the delay quickly.
Here are some common reasons your Emirates ID might be late:
Incorrect or incomplete form – A small mistake in your name, passport number, or documents can slow things down.
Too many people applying – During holidays or busy times, the system takes longer.
Medical test delay – First-time applicants need a health check. If that report is late, everything else is delayed too.
Technical problems – Sometimes, system issues stop the ID from being printed or sent.
Missed biometric appointment – If you are called to give fingerprints or a photo and you miss it, your process will stop.
Knowing the reason for the delay will help you take the right step.
After your visa is stamped in your passport, the Emirates ID normally arrives in 7 to 10 working days. But if something goes wrong, it might take longer—sometimes even weeks.
You can track your Emirates ID easily online:
Go to the official website: https://icp.gov.ae
Click on “ID Card Status”.
Enter your application number (PRAN) or Emirates ID number.
You’ll see if your ID is being processed, printed, or sent.
If you're waiting too long, here are a few things you can do:
Look at your application again to see if there are any errors. You can also visit a typing center or call ICP at 6005 22222 to fix issues.
If they ask you to come for fingerprints or a photo, go as soon as possible. Skipping or delaying this step will stop your process.
Need the ID urgently? You can pay extra for the Fast-Track (Express) Service. You may get your ID within 24 to 48 hours after your visa is stamped.
If your application seems stuck, go directly to the nearest ICP office. Take your passport, visa copy, and PRAN number. They may be able to help speed things up.
The ICP UAE Smart App lets you check your status, get updates, and request help quickly.
ICP will send messages to your mobile. Make sure your number is active and check for any instructions they send.
Sometimes, the card is printed but lost during delivery. If it’s been more than 10 working days, contact Emirates Post with your tracking number. If they can’t find it, ask ICP to reprint your card.
To avoid delays, make sure these documents are ready and correct:
Copy of your passport
Visa page (with the stamp)
Recent photo (white background)
Emirates ID application form
Proof of where you live (like a rental contract or a utility bill)
Even one missing or unclear document can cause long delays.
This simple guide helps you understand what causes delays and what you can do to fix them. If you act quickly and follow these steps, you’ll get your Emirates ID without much stress.
