George Clooney and Family Secures French Citizenship for Better Privacy

The French government has officially conferred citizenship upon Hollywood icon George Clooney, his wife Amal Clooney, a distinguished human rights attorney, and their twin kids, Ella and Alexander. This notable announcement recently appeared in the Journal Officiel, the official publication noting formal government decisions.

Amal was naturalized under her maiden name, Amal Alamuddin, preserving her original identity. The announcement also listed George’s full name, including his middle name, Timothy. This milestone reflects the family’s increasing connection to France, particularly after purchasing a rural estate in 2021.

Since then, the Clooneys have established France as their primary residence. In an earlier interview, George expressed his apprehensions about raising his kids in Los Angeles's intense Hollywood environment. He shared, “I was concerned about raising our children in L.A., considering the Hollywood culture. I want them free from worries about paparazzi or the comparison to other celebrity kids.”

Opting for life in France allows their twins a more sheltered and ordinary childhood, far removed from public scrutiny. Clooney highlighted the advantages of living in France, where their children can enjoy family meals and have limited exposure to screens, contrasting with the frenetic, celebrity-driven lifestyle typical in Hollywood.

Although the family has become French citizens, it remains unclear if George has also kept his American citizenship. Amal, who hails from Lebanon and was raised in the UK, along with their twins born in London, are now officially recognized as French citizens through this process.
