Emirates, the airline based in Dubai, is making a big change to its cabins. It is investing a huge amount of money to improve 219 of its airplanes. So far, 67 of these aircraft have been fully refurbished with new cabin designs. Among them are 32 A380s and 35 Boeing 777s. In addition, nine new Airbus A350s – already fitted with Premium Economy – have joined the fleet, and 56 more of the same aircraft will be added in the future.
What Is Premium Economy with Emirates?
Premium Economy is a cabin class that sits between Economy and Business. It is more comfortable than Economy, but more affordable than Business. Emirates says this new cabin gives passengers features such as:
Bigger, cream-coloured leather seats
Extra legroom and space to stretch
Footrests and calf rests for better comfort
A large 13.3-inch entertainment screen
Better dining service with premium meals and drinks
Dedicated check-in desks at the airport
How Many Seats & Layouts
The number of Premium Economy seats and how they are arranged differ depending on the aircraft:
Airbus A380: 56 seats, arranged in a 2-4-2 layout (two by the window, four in the middle, two by the other window).
Boeing 777: Up to 24 seats, arranged in a 2-4-2 layout.
Airbus A350: Up to 28 seats, arranged in a 2-3-2 layout.
How Big Is the Roll-out?
Emirates is not testing Premium Economy on a small scale. It is rolling it out in a major way:
By March 2026, Premium Economy will be available on flights to 68 cities.
By then, the airline will offer close to 2 million Premium Economy seats every year.
By the end of 2026, this number will double to 4 million seats per year.
This shows how serious the airline is about giving passengers more choice and comfort.
Loyalty Program: Emirates Skywards
Emirates has also updated its loyalty programme, Emirates Skywards, which has over 35 million members. The airline has unlocked new flight reward options for Premium Economy.
Members can now redeem Miles to purchase a full Premium Economy ticket. One-way flights start at 15,000 Miles.
Passengers can also use Miles to upgrade from Economy to Premium Economy. Upgrades start at 7,020 Miles.
These offers are initially only for Skywards members but may be extended to partner airlines later.
Over the summer of 2025 alone, almost half a million tickets were purchased using Classic Rewards, Cash+Miles, and Upgrade Rewards – showing just how popular these programmes are.
Where & When to Expect Premium Economy
Emirates is steadily expanding Premium Economy to more destinations. Some of the highlights include:
All A380 flights between Dubai and New York will have Premium Economy by December 2025.
Cities such as Mumbai, Kolkata, Amman, Muscat, and Bahrain are also getting the upgraded aircraft.
By March 2026, a total of 68 cities worldwide will be served with Premium Economy.
Cabin Features: What You Get
Here are the details of what passengers can expect when travelling in Premium Economy with Emirates:
Seat comfort: Wider seats, generous recline, more legroom, plus calf rests and footrests for longer flights.
Entertainment: A 13.3-inch HD screen with access to Emirates’ award-winning “ICE” system, offering more than 6,500 channels of movies, TV, music, and news. Passengers can also connect their own headphones via Bluetooth.
Dining: Meals are served on proper tableware, with premium drinks and a wine list to match.
Check-in & service: Premium Economy passengers enjoy dedicated check-in counters and attentive service in the air.
Why Emirates Is Doing This
There are clear reasons why Emirates is expanding Premium Economy:
Passenger demand – Travellers want more comfort than Economy but at a lower price than Business Class.
Fleet renewal – Since Emirates is refurbishing many planes and adding new ones, it makes sense to redesign cabins with this option.
Competition – Premium Economy helps Emirates compete better with other leading airlines worldwide.
Loyalty benefits – By adding Premium Economy to Skywards rewards, Emirates encourages more people to book and fly with them.
Recognition and Awards
Premium Economy by Emirates has already won global awards, including recognition as the Best Premium Economy by international aviation rating organisations. Many passengers say it feels closer to Business Class than Economy, which makes it even more attractive.
Emirates has made it clear that Premium Economy is here to stay and grow:
More destinations will be added in the coming months and years.
More aircraft will be refurbished and delivered with this cabin.
More ways to use Skywards Miles will become available.
By March 2026, Emirates aims to have Premium Economy on nearly all its busiest routes, serving millions of passengers each year.
Emirates’ Premium Economy is more than just a new seat – it is a whole travel experience. With more comfort, better meals, and extra rewards, it offers something new for passengers who want luxury but at a more affordable price than Business Class.
This is big news for travellers worldwide. Families, holidaymakers, and frequent fliers will all find Premium Economy a smart choice. With Emirates investing so heavily in its planes and services, the next few years promise to change the way people fly long distances.
