The theme for this edition, "Empowering Carbon Neutrality," aligns with the UAE’s goal of achieving climate neutrality by 2050. It also reflects Dubai’s vision of becoming a global leader in clean energy, as outlined in the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Emissions Strategy 2050. These efforts are aimed at ensuring that Dubai’s energy production comes entirely from clean energy sources by 2050. The award highlights the importance of both public and private institutions in reducing carbon emissions and increasing reliance on renewable energy.

HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, emphasized that under the leadership of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai remains committed to supporting all efforts that drive sustainable development and accelerate the transition to a green economy. He pointed out that the award not only recognizes innovative projects but also encourages collaboration and the exchange of ideas to tackle climate challenges. Dubai has become a global benchmark for clean energy and environmental sustainability, reinforcing its leadership in the green energy sector.

He further explained that the Emirates Energy Award plays a crucial role in motivating institutions and individuals to adopt sustainable practices. The initiative encourages international cooperation and helps turn ideas into real projects that support the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, ensuring a better future for the coming generations. The award is not just about recognizing achievements—it is an open invitation for global engagement and collaboration to build a more sustainable world.

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy and Chairman of the Emirates Energy Award stated that the award reflects the vision of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to position Dubai as a global hub for renewable energy and sustainable development. He noted that this initiative has grown beyond just recognizing projects and has become a strategic tool for raising awareness and promoting best practices in energy management. He also emphasized that international cooperation is essential for achieving major climate goals, and the Emirates Energy Award provides a platform for innovative solutions to thrive.

HE Ahmed Butti Al Muhairbi, Secretary-General of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy and Vice Chairman of the Emirates Energy Award Committee, explained that the award serves as a platform to highlight innovations in clean energy. It encourages communities worldwide to adopt sustainable solutions, contributing to global development goals.

The Emirates Energy Award is dedicated to supporting clean energy innovation and promoting the responsible use of natural resources. It seeks to recognize pioneering projects that successfully reduce carbon emissions and improve energy efficiency. In addition, the award raises awareness about sustainability and encourages institutions and individuals to adopt environmentally friendly practices. By supporting scientific research and technological advancements, it helps drive the transition to clean energy. It also fosters global collaboration, providing a space where experts from different countries can exchange knowledge and ideas.

At the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29) in Baku, Azerbaijan, the Emirates Energy Award played a key role in promoting sustainability efforts. The event allowed the award to showcase its objectives, past achievements, and contributions to global energy initiatives. The award regularly participates in major international events, strengthening its reputation as a UAE-led initiative that encourages cooperation in the field of sustainable energy. COP29 provided an opportunity to highlight innovative projects that have made significant progress in reducing carbon footprints.

Since its launch in 2012, the Emirates Energy Award has made remarkable progress, attracting over 600 submissions from more than 40 countries. The award includes categories such as large and small energy projects, energy efficiency, circular economy, education, research, and innovation. Each category reflects the award’s mission to promote sustainable practices and encourage creative solutions in energy management.

In its fifth edition, innovation remains a key focus of the award. Many participating projects feature advanced solutions, such as converting waste into energy and improving building efficiency. The award aims to support projects that can be scaled up and applied to different communities to improve quality of life while ensuring sustainability.

The submission deadline for the fifth edition is March 1, 2025, and the awards ceremony is set to take place in October 2025. This event will bring together leaders and experts from around the world to celebrate achievements in clean energy and sustainability.

The Emirates Energy Award represents the UAE’s strong commitment to a sustainable future, in line with the country’s long-term vision for 2071. As the world faces increasing environmental challenges, the award continues to serve as an important tool for encouraging green initiatives and supporting the transition to a cleaner economy. It provides global recognition to projects that contribute to clean energy, inspiring institutions and individuals to follow similar models.

Over the years, the Emirates Energy Award has helped highlight many successful energy projects within the UAE. In the 2022 edition, the Abu Dhabi Municipality won an award in the ‘Energy Efficiency – Public Sector’ category for its efforts in upgrading public buildings to conserve water and electricity. The Dubai Airport Free Zone was also recognized for its project that improved building efficiency. Similarly, Dubai Airports received an award in the ‘Energy Efficiency – Private Sector’ category for its measures to reduce water and electricity consumption.

In the 2017 edition, the Abu Dhabi Carbon Capture Company was honored in the ‘Large Energy Projects’ category for its innovative carbon capture and storage project. The Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre was awarded in the ‘Small Energy Projects’ category for its work on energy efficiency. Additionally, the Abu Dhabi Gas Development Company Limited won in the ‘Energy Efficiency – Public Sector’ category for its improvements in operational efficiency. Masdar, the Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company, was recognized for its research in desalination systems, while Emaar Malls Group received an award for enhancing energy efficiency in its commercial buildings.

As the Emirates Energy Award continues to grow, it plays an increasingly important role in encouraging international cooperation in sustainable energy. It has successfully brought together experts, institutions, and companies from around the world, creating a space where ideas and solutions can be shared. The fifth edition of the award comes at a critical time when the world is facing mounting pressure to shift to clean energy and reduce dependence on fossil fuels. Recognizing outstanding projects not only raises awareness but also motivates others to adopt sustainable practices.

The UAE’s dedication to sustainability is reflected in the Emirates Energy Award, which remains a leading model for promoting clean energy. By focusing on innovation and collaboration, the award supports the country’s vision of becoming a global leader in energy and sustainable development. This initiative not only highlights groundbreaking projects but also reinforces the UAE’s role in tackling climate change and building a greener future.
