Dulquer Salmaan Faces On-Screen Slap Drama in ‘Kaantha’

Kaantha, starring Dulquer Salmaan, Bhagyashri Borse, and Rana Daggubati, released earlier this month and is receiving positive reviews from critics. The Tamil drama is performing well at the box office, with total earnings of ₹19.95 crore so far. Set against the backdrop of 1950s Madras, the film explores the journey of superstar T. K. Mahadevan (Dulquer Salmaan), who is shooting Tamil cinema’s first horror film, Saantha.

In a recent interview with Sudhir Srinivasan, director Selvamani Selvaraj and actress Bhagyashri Borse opened up about some of the film’s most intense scenes. Bhagyashri revealed that she was initially hesitant to perform a scene in which her character slaps Dulquer for the first time. She said:

"Obviously behind the scenes, I was a little hesitant about doing the same, but I think he (Dulquer) wanted that perfection. We really went for it, and he was ready to go through that to get that performance out of him, and I respect that. But I was really, like, hesitant. It is the first time I ever did it."

Director Selvamani added that Dulquer’s face turned red after filming the scene, highlighting the actor’s dedication and professionalism.

The film primarily revolves around the ego clash between T. K. Mahadevan and his former mentor, Ayya (Samuthirakani), and how it impacts their loved ones. Bhagyashri plays Kumari, an aspiring actress, while Rana Daggubati portrays Inspector Phoenix, adding further depth to the storyline.

Kaantha is directed by Selvamani and produced by Dulquer Salmaan and Rana Daggubati under Wayfarer Films and Spirit Media.
