Dubai, UAE: Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has achieved a groundbreaking milestone, with its public bus fleet surpassing 2 million kilometers per bus, setting a new global record. Over 18 years of uninterrupted service, these buses have consistently maintained high operational efficiency, reinforcing Dubai’s position as a global hub for innovation and sustainable transport.
Global Benchmarking:
RTA’s buses now significantly outperform other major cities. For comparison, London’s fleet recorded a maximum of 1.3 million km per bus, and Singapore’s fleet reached 1.4 million km. In 2025 alone, Dubai’s buses achieved an availability rate of over 93%, along with an exceptionally low fault rate, highlighting the effectiveness of RTA’s preventive maintenance and operational strategies.
Strategic Success:
This achievement is not just a numerical feat but a testament to RTA’s commitment to smart, sustainable public transportation. By maximizing asset utilization and implementing circular economy standards, the Authority has extended the lifespan of buses, significantly reducing waste, cutting capital expenditure, and enhancing operational sustainability.
Operational Excellence:
The success reflects the efficiency of RTA’s preventive maintenance programs and precision operational practices. A dedicated professional team has maintained the fleet to world-class standards, contributing to customer satisfaction and Dubai’s global reputation for quality urban services.
Environmental & Economic Impact:
Extending bus lifespans supports Dubai’s environmental goals by minimizing vehicle manufacturing waste and delaying fleet replacement costs. The achievement aligns with the city’s vision of smart mobility, sustainable growth, and enhanced quality of life for residents.
Dubai RTA’s record-setting milestone demonstrates how innovative management, sustainability, and efficiency can create measurable global benchmarks in public transportation. This sets a new standard for cities worldwide aiming to enhance both environmental and operational performance.
