In a bid to fortify security along the Thai-Cambodian border, the Royal Thai Army is ramping up the construction of bomb shelters designed to safeguard both civilians and military personnel. This initiative underscores the army's commitment to enhancing safety amidst ongoing border tensions.
Led by General Phana Klaewplodthuk, the army has emphasized the dual importance of national defense and civilian safety. Collaborating with engineering units and border defense forces, the Army Civil Affairs Department is set to erect 182 bomb shelters in crucial locations.
According to reports, the Burapha Task Force is overseeing 108 of these shelters, while the Suranaree Task Force is responsible for the remaining 74. Since December 2025, substantial progress has been made, with 117 shelters completed and 65 still under construction, achieving over 80% of the project.
The Royal Thai Army has reiterated its dedication to ensuring the security and welfare of residents near the border. In addition, efforts are underway to restore impacted areas and implement preventive approaches, enabling communities to resume normal activities with enhanced safety and peace of mind.
